The Moon Maiden Series by Daniel Nkado: African Fantasy Novels Set in Odu

An African fantasy saga of witchcraft, moon magic, and a sacred kingdom.

The Moon Maiden Series by Daniel Nkado is a sweeping African fantasy series set in the mysterious Kingdom of Odu, a world of witches, sacred forests, royal desire, buried secrets, moon magic, and ancient powers moving beneath ordinary village life.

At the centre of the series is Ola-edo, a farmer’s daughter whose quiet life is shattered when the hidden light inside her begins to awaken. What begins as a personal story of grief, family, and survival soon expands into a dangerous struggle between darkness and light, where witches plot beneath a vanishing moon and sacred forces choose their vessels without asking permission.

The first two books in the series are now available on Amazon:

Book One: Ola-edo and the Five Witches of Odu
Book Two: Ola-edo and the Sacred Sisters of Uwoma
Book Three: Ola-edo and the Hopping Spirits of Ezumezu (forthcoming)

Together, they introduce readers to the world of Odu, the mystery of the Moon Stone, the power of the Moon Maiden, and the dangerous path that leads from palace intrigue to the sacred trials of Uwoma Forest.

Book One: Ola-edo and the Five Witches of Odu

In the kingdom of Odu, beauty is easily mistaken for innocence, and darkness gathers under a vanishing moon.

Ola-edo, a farmer’s daughter carrying the grief of her mother’s wrongful execution, wants only a quiet life away from the kingdom’s elite and a defiant crown prince. But as the rare Elder Moon approaches, a ruthless coven plots to resurrect their dark master with the legendary Moon Stone — an artefact that answers only to the chosen Moon Maiden.

Unbeknownst to Ola-edo, she is the vessel of this ancient light.

When a deceptive witch infiltrates her home, Ola-edo is thrust into a treacherous web of royal politics, buried secrets and deadly magic. To save her family — and a kingdom that has only ever shown her cruelty — she must prepare for the perilous journey to Uwoma Forest and embrace a terrifying destiny she never asked for.

Ola-edo and the Five Witches of Odu is a sweeping African fantasy of witchcraft, betrayal, royal desire, hidden power and the enduring strength of a daughter’s love.

Why Start with Book One?

Book One introduces the Kingdom of Odu, Ola-edo’s family history, the mystery of the Moon Maiden, the Elder Moon, the coven of witches, the Moon Stone, and the royal tensions that shape the rest of the series.

It is the best place to begin because it shows how Ola moves from ordinary village life into the dangerous centre of power, prophecy, and spiritual conflict.

Readers who enjoy African fantasy, witchcraft, royal politics, slow-burning destiny, and heroines forced into power will find Book One a strong entry point into the series.

Book Two: Ola-edo and the Sacred Sisters of Uwoma

Ola-edo has survived the darkness that tried to claim her, but her journey as the Moon Maiden of Odu has only just begun.

After Prince Onyema is attacked and the truth of Ola’s power can no longer remain hidden, she travels with four companions to Uwoma Forest in search of the Moon Stone, a sacred vessel of power tied to the destiny of Odu. Beside her are Nene, her loyal friend; Prince Onyema, still learning the weight of courage; Azu, the boy with eyes for what others cannot see; and Ikenna, whose strength may prove more important than even he understands.

But Uwoma is no longer the peaceful forest of legend. The Sacred Sisters have been driven from their palace, a dark witch now rules where light once stood, and the Moon Stone waits beyond trials that will test loyalty, bravery, sacrifice, and the true meaning of power.

As Ola discovers more of the light she carries, danger grows in Odu. Old enemies rise, false servants reveal themselves, and the battle between the Goddess of Light and the dark forces beneath the earth takes a new and deadly turn.

Ola-edo and the Sacred Sisters of Uwoma is the second book in the Moon Maiden Series, an African fantasy adventure filled with moon magic, sacred forests, witchcraft, prophecy, friendship, sacrifice, and the struggle between darkness and light.

What Expands in Book Two?

Book Two widens the world beyond Odu.

Where Book One introduces Ola-edo’s hidden power and the danger gathering around the Elder Moon, Book Two sends Ola and her companions into Uwoma Forest, where sacred women have been displaced, old powers are watching, and the path to the Moon Stone becomes a test of loyalty, courage, sacrifice, and spiritual maturity.

The story moves from palace danger into mythic adventure. Readers encounter sacred forests, fallen guardians, dark magic, strange trials, and the growing cost of carrying light in a world where darkness is not finished fighting.

With the Moon Stone returned but darkness still moving in secret, Ola must face a force older, stranger, and more deceptive than anything she has known before.
