Tama Tonga started his career as a wrestler in 2008 alongside his adoptive brother, Tanga Loa. The Tonga brothers were first trained by their father, Tonga Fifita, and a family friend, Ricky Santana. They made their professional debut in November 2008 as a tag team in Southern Championship Wrestling, under the ring name, “The Sons of Tonga”.
The brothers worked together until 2009. In 2010, Tama Tonga joined New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). In 2012, he went on to work for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL).
