The United Kingdom’s Office of Communications, commonly known as Ofcom, has slammed Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s TV channel, Loveworld, with a £125,000 fine for broadcasting misleading information about the COVID-19 pandemic.
The broadcasting regulator described the Christian TV’s messages about the COVID-19 virus as “harmful” and noted that the church had received warnings in the past over the same issue.
The statement from Ofcom reads:
“Ofcom has imposed a financial penalty of £125,000 on Loveworld Limited after a programme broadcast on its religious service Loveworld Television Network featured inaccurate and potentially harmful claims about the Coronavirus without providing adequate protection for viewers.
“This was the second time in a year that the broadcaster breached our rules on accuracy in news and harm in its coverage of the Coronavirus.”
Pastor Oyakhilome who is the founder and president of Believers’ Loveworld, also known as Christ Embassy, has shared several conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 pandemic. He once claimed that coronavirus disease was caused by 5G network and not a virus.
He recently attacked other Christian leaders who are encouraging their members to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
