List of cheapest UK universities for Nigerian students in 2023

The United Kingdom has risen to become one of the top choice destinations for Nigerian students planning to study abroad. While universities in the United Kingdom are known to offer world-class education in science, arts and technology, studying in the UK does not come cheap for international students, especially Nigerian students who have to exchange a weaker Naira for the Pounds.

The good news is, some universities in the United Kingdom are more affordable for Nigerian students than others. Some of these universities in our list offer enticing discount packages or scholarships to international students intending to study with them.

This article presents a list of the cheapest UK universities for Nigerian students in 2023:

1. University of West London

Tuition Fee – £13,000

The University of West London is one of the cheapest UK universities in London for Nigerian students. It is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom with campuses in Ealing, Brentford, Reading, and Berkshire. The university offers a wide selection of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering, music, media, nursing, law, and criminology. The University also offers up to 100 international ambassador scholarships each year to students in their first year of undergraduate or postgraduate study.

2. Leeds Beckett University

Tuition Fee- £14,000

Formerly known as Leeds Metropolitan University and Leeds Polytechnic. Leeds Beckett University is a public research university in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England with campuses in the city centre and Headingley. It is one of the most popular universities in the United Kingdom with a history dating back almost 200 years. This prestigious university offers a £2000 discount to Nigerian students planning to study with them.

3. University of Hull

Tuition Fee- £9,250

The University of Hull is a public research university founded in 1927 as University College Hull. It is ranked #651-700 in QS World University rankings 2023. For years, Hull has held the reputation for being the cheapest UK university for Nigerians, the reason most Nigerians go there. However, the university is located far from London and other big UK cities and finding part-time jobs (for students interested in this) can be harder.

4. Teesside University

Tuition Fee- £9,750 -15,000

Teesside University is a public university located in Middlesbrough, the Northeast of England. It is ranked top 10 in the United Kingdom for overall international student satisfaction. It is also a top destination for students interested in pursuing disciplines in forensic science, computer gaming, design, and animation. Teesside University offers a fee discount to international students planning to join them. This discount is often automatically applied to your tuition fee if you met the qualifying criteria.

5. Harper Adams University College

Tuition Fee- £11,250

Harper Adams University is one of the top public universities in Newport, United Kingdom. It is ranked #1001-1200 in QS World University Rankings 2023. With tuition of less than £12K for international students, Harper Adams University is included in the list of 2023’s most affordable UK schools for Nigerians.

6. Buckinghamshire New University

Tuition Fee- £13,750

Buckinghamshire New University is located in Buckinghamshire, England with campuses in High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Uxbridge, and Great Missenden. The standard fee for an international student is £13,750. If you’re a self-funded international Student paying overseas fees, you may qualify for the Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship which further reduces the tuition.

7. University of Chester

Tuition Fee- £13,450

The University of Chester is considered one of the cheapest universities in the United Kingdom. It is located in Chester, England with campuses in Warrington and Shrewsbury. The tuition fee for international students studying undergraduate courses in the 2023/24 academic year is £13,450. All undergraduate students are eligible for an International Scholarship Award, which is applicable to each year of study. Students who pay all fees for the year either on or before enrolment are entitled to a further reduction of £250.

8. University of Bedfordshire

Tuition Fee- £14,500

This public research university is located in Luton with campuses in Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, England.

Bedfordshire University’s tuition for international students used to be £13,500 before it was increased to £14500 in the 2023/24 academic year. However, the school still offers a £1,000 VC Scholarship to international students in the first year of either undergraduate or postgraduate study. An additional discount of £500 is also available for prompt payment of the first year fees in full, before or at registration (undergraduate and postgraduate). 

9. York St John University

Tuition Fee – £13,000

York St John University often abbreviated as YSJ is a prestigious public university with a history going back to the 1840s. The university descends from two Anglican teacher training colleges, which were founded in York in 1841 (for men) and 1846 (for women). The standard fee for international students is £13,000. However, a small number of courses have lower fees. Some international students will also be eligible for YSJ’s international scholarship discounts of up to £2500.

10. University of East London

Tuition Fee- £13,500

The University of East London is one of the cheapest UK universities in London for Nigerian students. In addition to the low fees, the university also offers scholarships/discounts of up to £5000 to international self-funded students looking to enrol with them.
