by Staff writer

A church in Anambra State, Nigeria has been attacked by unknown gunmen, leaving at least 9 persons dead and several others injured.

The unknown gunmen invaded a church in Ozubulu, Anambra State, during church service on Sunday and opened fire on worshipers.

The church, St. Philip’s Catholic Church Ozubulu is located in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The attackers and their motive have not been established, but worshipers who escaped the attack said the gunmen all communicated in Igbo Language.

Another side of the story claimed that the church massacre was as a result of a bitter feud between two brothers residing in South Africa, one of whom had used money he swindled from the other to build the church.

One of the sources who spoke to DNB Stories on the condition of anonymity said:

“The guys came from South Africa. One of the drug lords had swindled the people he worked with. They were actually looking for his father who worships at the church.

“When they couldn’t find him, the men raised their guns and started shooting people.”

Dead bodies and the injured have been taken to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.

Doctors are already attending to the injured, DNB Stories learned.

Governor Obiano visits injured persons at the hospital.

The state governor, Willie Obiano has called for calm in the state, assuring residents that security operatives have swung into action.

“We can’t allow this to happen in Anambra, we must get everyone involved to face the music,” the governor said during his visit to the scene of the incident.

The governor also assured affected families that all medical bills will be taken care of by the State Government.
