Army general Johnson Olu Irefin reportedly dies of COVID-19

Nigerian Army general Johnson Olu Irefin has died of coronavirus complications, The Nation reports.

Major General Johnson Olu Irefin was before his death the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6th Division, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to the report, while the Army is yet to give an official statement, a senior military officer from Abuja confirmed Johnson Irefin’s death, describing it as shocking.

Nigerian newspaper, The Nation, quoted the officer as saying:

“One of our fine officers is dead. He is the GOC, 6th Division. He died in Abuja after developing complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic.”
