Peju Johnson’s Childhood and Education
Peju Johnson was born and raised in Ile Ife, Osun state. She is the third child in a family of five. She had her primary education at Community Primary School and her secondary education at Kingswill College, Ile Ife. Peju Johnson stayed briefly in Shagamu, Ogun State, before travelling to Egypt to stay with her sister.
Living in Egypt
Peju Johnson said she enjoyed living in Egypt. She moved to the north-eastern African country in 2011 on her sister’s invitation. While there, Peju Johnson set up a small business and also started her acting career.
Two years after arriving in Egypt, Peju Johnson joined Egypt’s branch of the Theatre Arts And Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) in Cairo. Peju Johnson said her acting journey started from there.
Moving back to Nigeria
Peju Johnson moved back to Nigeria in December 2016, after staying in Egypt for about five years. On her move back to Nigeria, Peju Johnson said, “I came back to Nigeria last year [2016] December to start my acting career back here fully because acting is one of my dreams so I am trying and putting more effort to make it come true.”
Peju Johnson credits popular Yoruba actor and filmmaker, Kehinde Adeyemi, as the mentor that helped her find her feet in acting in Nigeria.
Peju Johnson said in a 2018 interview with Vanguard News, “I came back to Nigeria in 2016 and met Kehinde Adeyemi in 2017. He is my boss and the person that put me through. Without him, the journey would have been very hard but with his help and tutelage things have been moving for me very well.”
