Nigerian actress Ngozi Nwosu currently has one of the longest-running careers in Nollywood, spanning over three decades.
The veteran actress is set to play the mother of a drug addict in an upcoming family drama titled “Broken Portrait”.
Written by Eyo Emmanuel and directed by Richmond Amechi, “Broken Portrait” tells the story of a family dealing with a drug-addicted son. The project is supposed to highlight the impact of drug addiction on family relationships and throw more light on the sensitivity of the topic of drug misuse, especially in young people.
Speaking about her work in the film, Nwosu, 60, who plays the addict’s mother “Ezinne Idahosa” shared how she got overwhelmed with emotions during the shooting.
The actress said:
The story is so emotional. In fact, at some point during the shoot, I had to take a moment for myself. It’s a story that will have you fully immersed. First, it was the storyline, I loved it and I knew I could do it, I took it. Then it was the uniqueness of the story. It is told differently. There are so many stories on issues like this but this one stands out.
The actress also added that beyond money, she is mostly influenced by the “story” when deciding to accept a role.
She said:
The story has to work for me. The role I am required to play is another thing. Then, the money. Sometimes the money isn’t such a focus for me if the story is excellent. That is why I accepted to be in Broken Portrait.
Ngozi Nwosu has featured in over 60 Nollywood films including the 1992 classic, “Living in Bondage”. One of her most notable characters is Jemima “Ije Kpums” which she played many years ago in a family drama that starred other veterans.
