Who is Chidimma Adetshina’s ex-husband?

While the full details of Chidimma Adetshina’s ex-husband, King Sefo, are currently scarce, reports say he is an Igbo nightlife promoter and businessman based in South Africa. According to an X user, the former couple met in 2022 at a nightclub in Cape Town, where Adetshina reportedly worked as a bottle girl.

Meanwhile, Chidimma has only confirmed that she was married but kept the identity of her ex-husband private. She further shared that she divorced her husband in February 2024 because they were incompatible.

In her words:

“I got divorced in February. We were not compatible because he had this ideology of what an African married woman is. I didn’t want to be in a position where I couldn’t go out, but I had to clean and cook… that was just not for me because, as a society, we are way past that phase. My parents have been very supportive, and although my marriage robbed me of enjoying the beauty of pregnancy and being a wife – overall, it brings me joy that I get to take new steps with my son.”

Chidimma explained:

“I didn’t think I’d be a mom at my age as he was conceived out of wedlock, but I’m glad to have him. At the beginning of the year, I was so depressed and worried about how life would turn out for me, but getting this far in the competition made me believe there was more in store for me.”

About Chidimma Adetshina’s exit from Miss South Africa 2024

In 2024, Chidimma Adetshina contested at the Miss South Africa beauty pageant, emerging as a finalist. However, she withdrew from the race following an investigation into her mother’s citizenship by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs. The investigation reportedly uncovered evidence of fraud and identity theft relating to Chidimma Adetshina’s mother’s acquisition of South African citizenship. 

Adetshina’s participation in Miss South Africa 2024 was mired in scrutiny and a series of xenophobic attacks due to her Nigerian and Mozambican roots.

About her experience with xenophobic attacks from some South Africans, Chidimma Adetshina said: 

“It was a horrible experience and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It was heartbreaking that I wasn’t welcomed or accepted because of my name, despite living in South Africa for 23 years.”

She also said:

“I feel all of this is black-on-black hate, as I’m not the only one in this competition who has a surname that’s not South African. I feel the attention is on me because of my skin colour, which I think is a disadvantage; it’s also been something I had to overcome growing up.”

After accepting an invitation to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidimma Adetshina competed against 24 other contestants. On August 31, 2024, she won the pageant and went on to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico. At Miss Universe 2024, Chidimma Adetshina emerged as the first runner-up, with Denmark’s Victoria Kjær Theilvig winning the contest. Chidimma Adetshina’s placement is currently Nigeria’s highest at the Miss Universe pageant. As the highest-ranked African contestant, Chidimma Adetshina was also crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania. 

Regarding her historic achievement at the Miss Universe 2024, Chidimma Adetshina spoke with Channels TV in November 2024:

“It was a really fulfilling experience for me. I think I exceeded my expectations and I’m really proud of myself even though I didn’t come out as the winner. I still came out with 2 titles.”
