Lagos police rescue man from jumping into lagoon

Officers of the Lagos Police Command yesterday saved a young man from jumping off the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

The incidence was confirmed on the official Twitter page of the Lagos Police Command.

According to the police statement, the young man was frustrated and hell-bent on jumping off into the lagoon.

Suicidal Nigerians jumping off the Third Mainland Bridge in an attempt to end their lives is not new – there have been many reports in the past.

The police also said the man was taken to a nearby police station in Oworonshoki where his family was contacted.

The full police statement reads:

Yesterday our vigilant officers on 3MB prevented this young man from diving into the Lagoon. His expression of frustration made him hell-bent on jumping despite being restrained by the officers. He’s been taken to Oworo Police Station where his family was contacted.

There’ve been many previous reports of people jumping off the Third Mainland Bridge (the longest bridge in Nigeria) in an attempt to commit suicide.
