Yemi Alade is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who was born on March 13, 1989, to parents Helen Uzoma and James Alade. Yemi Alade was born in Abia State, in southeastern Nigeria. Her mother is Igbo while her father is Yoruba.
Yemi Alade grew up in Lagos and attended Victory Grammar School, Ikeja before gaining admission to study at the University of Lagos.
During her time in the university, Yemi Alade successfully auditioned for the Peak Talent Show—a television talent show aimed at showcasing upcoming entertainers in Nigeria. She gained popularity after she emerged the winner of the show in 2009 and was signed to record label Effyzzie Music Group.
