Chike is a Nigerian singer and songwriter known for his soulful songs and smooth lyrics. He is also an actor who appeared as a regular cast on the Africa Magic TV show “Battleground”.

Chike’s childhood and education

Chike is one of four brothers born to Igbo parents. Though originally from Onitsha in Anambra State, Chike was born in Enugu and raised in Lagos. His parents were into music and the singer has admitted that this added to his interest to do music.

Chike has described his childhood as “strict” and revealed he had really tough parenting. He had most of his early education in Lagos but later moved to Ogun State to study at Covenant University where he bagged a degree in Computer Engineering.

Chike’s music career

Chike has revealed he was raised in a musically-inclined family. He started singing as a child. He became more invested in his talent after he won an award for the best vocalist in his high school. He later auditioned for the defunct reality show, Project Fame West Africa in 2015 but was eliminated after making it to the top 10.

He was not ready to be deterred from pursuing his dreams and went on to participate in the pioneering season of The Voice Nigeria, finishing as a runner-up against the season’s winner, A’rese.

In 2016, Chike released his first single, “Fancy U” which was immediately followed by an official music video. In 2018, his second single, “Beautiful People” was released after he announced his withdrawal from Universal Records. Chike’s music career rose to global prominence after he released his groundbreaking debut album – “Boo of the Booless” in 2020.

The 14-track album topped many charts and contains some of the most most-listened Afro-RnB songs in Nigeria that year.

Chike has collaborated with some of Nigeria’s finest musicians including the likes of Mayorkun, Ric Hassani, Simi, etc. He recently performed at the Future Awards Africa Prize event.
