She had most of her early education in Ilupeju. She later attended Dowen College in Lekki until her mother relocated to Ajah permanently. Shortly after her graduation from secondary school, Tems left Nigeria for South Africa for her tertiary education. She eventually graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

Tems music career

Tems started singing at a tender age – she would sing while her brother played the guitar. During her secondary school days, she picked up learning the piano. Her music teacher in school discovered she had a gift for music and encouraged her to pursue the dream of becoming a music artist. She joined the school’s choir when she was 11 years old without the knowledge of anyone in the family. Tems would train with her teacher because she taught her voice was too heavy and wrong. She remarked that Beyonce’s music was the first to influence her love for making her own songs. She loved singing along to Destiny’s Child’s hit songs, “Soldier” and “Survivor”.

Tems started engaging with music producers while in the university but was not satisfied with the conditions and results. This pushed her to learn music production on YouTube. By 2018, she produced and released her first hit track “Mr Rebel” from her debut album, “Illumination”. The following year, another single, “Try me”, was released. It became an instant success, garnering millions of streams across top music platforms, including YouTube.

In 2020, Tems was featured in Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” album. In the same year, she released her second EP“For Broken Ears”, which featured the breakup chartbuster, “Damages”.
