Joeboy is a Nigerian Afrobeats singer, songwriter and recording artist. He is signed to Banku Music, a record label under the exclusive license of emPawa Africa Limited owned by Mr Eazi. Joeboy is popularly known for hit songs like, “Alcohol”, “Baby”, “Beginning” and “All For You”.
Joeboy’s early life and education
Joeboy’s real name is Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus. He was born on May 21, 1997, in Surulere, Lagos State. As of June 2022, Joeboy is 25 years old. He was raised in the city of Lagos. Joeboy is the last born of four children. He has two brothers and a sister.
Joeboy grew up in a music-loving family. His dad played piano in the church, while his elder brother played the guitar and also sang in the choir. He had his primary and secondary education in Lagos State before he proceeded to the University of Lagos where he studied Human Resource Management. How Joeboy started his Career
Joeboy started his music career at the age of 16. He had an early exposure to music through his family and his brother’s relationship with 9ice and ID Cabasa helped facilitate his music career.
According to information gathered by DNB Stories Africa, Joeboy revealed that he got his musical inspiration from 9ice and ID Cabasa, whom he used to hang out with in the studio. At the age of 17, he recorded his first Afrobeat song titled “Gbeseyin”.
In 2017, when he was 20 years old, Joeboy was launched into the spotlight after he released a cover version of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You”. The cover got the attention of Mr Eazi of emPawa Africa. Mr Eazi who revealed that Joeboy embodies his vision for emPawa helped the young artist through his emPawa initiative and eventually signed him to his record label, emPawa Africa.
With the help of Me Eazi’s emPawa platform, Joeboy was able to record another song titled “Faaji” which also did well in the charts. In 2019, Joeboy released his hit love song, “Baby” which made it to the top 10 songs on Apple Music in Nigeria, Uganda and Kenya. Joeboy’s debut album, “Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic” (SBBM) was released on February 4, 2021. The album received recognition and positive reviews from critics.
Joeboy’s marriage and wedding
As of June 2022, Joeboy is not married and does not have a wife. However, in 2021, he granted an interview where he revealed that he is in a relationship with a sugar mummy (an older female lover). He proudly called himself a sugar baby and he seemed happy with the relationship. He didn’t reveal the identity of the sugar mummy. He said he preferred to keep it private.

Joeboy revealed in 2021 that he has a sugar mummy (an older female lover) but did not reveal any details regarding her name or identity. According to him, his song “Sugar Mama” was inspired by his relationship with his sugar mummy.
