Rema is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and stage performer. He is currently signed to Jonzing World records, a subsidiary of Mavins Records. Rema is well known for his hit songs like “Dumebi”, “Iron man”, “Corny”, “Ginger Me” and many others. He is often referred to as “Remmy Boy” and “Rave Lorde” by some of his fans.
Early life and childhood
Rema’s real name is Divine Ikubor. He was born on May 1, 2000, in Benin City, Edo State, in the South-Southern part of Nigeria. He is 22 years old as of July 2022. He was born into a Christain family. Rema is the last of four children (two boys and two girls) born to his parents Justice Ikubor (father) and Mrs Ikubor (mother).
Rema’s father was a high-ranking member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State and the former general manager of the state-owned Ethiope Publishing Company, while his mother is a businesswoman who prefers to stay away from the media. Unfortunately, Rema’s father passed away in 2008. His elder brother later also passed away in 2015.
After losing his father and elder brother, things were difficult for the Ikubor family. According to Rema, he was the only male in the family so he had to man up and take care of his mother and sisters. He had to go to Ghana, did menial jobs as well as worked on a beach to cater to his family.

Rema had his primary and secondary education at Ighile Group of Schools, Edo State. In January 2022, he took to Twitter to announce that he had gained admission into the University of Lagos to study Creative Arts. How Rema started his career
Rema has always had a passion for music right from when he was still a teenager. He first got into music in his home church – Christ of Mercy Church where he was appointed as a leader for a program called “Rap Nation”. Through the program, Rema taught kids how to rap for the congregation. While still in secondary school, Rema always performed for his classmates and was always the go-to person when it comes to performing at shows held in his secondary school. However, after graduating from secondary school, he didn’t further his education immediately, instead, he used the period to work on himself and be a better musician.
