A Nigerian crossdresser popularly known as “Abuja Area Mama” has been brutally murdered by unknown persons and his body dropped on the road.
The crossdresser’s body was found in the morning of Thursday (August 8th) by passersby still wearing the same outfit he wore in a TikTok video he made on Wednesday evening.
The spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed on Twitter that the command received a distress call on Thursday morning about a corpse found on the Katampe-Mabushi expressway of Abuja.
She wrote:
On 08/08/2024 at 07:40 AM, we received a distress call reporting a corpse found on the Katampe-Mabushi expressway. Detectives dispatched to the scene discovered the individual was a man dressed in female clothing with no identification. Investigation is ongoing .
The cheery crossdresser revealed in an interview last year that he realized he was gay at a young age and often spoke openly about engaging in prostitution to survive hardship. He also shared that he was previously attacked by some violent persons but managed to disarm his assailants and escape.
LGBT individuals in Nigeria face severe discrimination and danger daily. The combination of draconian laws, and deep-seated cultural and religious homophobia often spur targeted attacks and violence on gay people.
