P. Diddy and 50 Cent have never been friends, and in fact, their feud dates back to the mid-2000s. This hip-hop rivalry started in 2006 when 50 Cent released a diss track, “The Bomb,” where he alleged that Diddy was involved in the murder of The Notorious B.I.G. Although Sean Combs (Diddy) has since denied the accusations, their beef continues to escalate.
In March 2024, federal agents raided P. Diddy’s home as part of an ongoing sexual assault investigation. 50 Cent took to social media to mock the rapper, stirring up their long-time feud in the media. DNB Stories Africa has compiled the full details of why P. Diddy and 50 Cent are not friends – from the infamous diss tracks to recent public disputes.
Diddy and 50 Cent had a good rapport in the 1990s but were never friends
While P. Diddy and 50 Cent may seem like enemies today, they had a good working relationship in the 1990s. In fact, the hip-hop artists worked with the same producers who encouraged them to collaborate. Notably, Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) helped ghostwrite Diddy’s 2001 hit song “Let’s Get It.” However, 50 insists they were never friends and that he only saw Combs as a “businessperson”.
50 Cent shared with The Hollywood Reporter in July 2024:
“I wouldn’t call it a friendship because there wouldn’t be disappointment between us if we didn’t speak to each other… I didn’t ever party or hang out with him.”
The P. Diddy-50 Cent feud began with 50 Cent’s diss track “The Bomb”
In 2006, 50 Cent released a diss track “The Bomb,” where he alleged that Diddy knew who killed Biggie.
He rapped:
“Who shot Biggie Smalls? We don’t get ’em. They’re gonna kill us all. Man, Puffy knows who hit that nigga.”
The Notorious B.I.G. was murdered in a drive-by shooting on March 9, 1997, at age 24. Before his death, he was signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. On the night of the shooting, Diddy and B.I.G. were reportedly traveling together although in separate vehicles. However, Diddy has since been cleared of being involved in B.I.G.’s death.
While no one has been formally charged with the Notorious B.I.G.’s murder, 50 Cent’s diss track targets Combs with lyrics like:
“I guess this means I won’t be invited to the white parties in the Hamptons.”
This line references Diddy’s famous parties, which are now the subject of much speculation. Of course, these accusations didn’t sit well with Diddy, which is just one reason why P. Diddy and 50 Cent are not friends.
50 Cent linked P. Diddy to the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur
50 Cent has also implied many times that P. Diddy had something to do with the murder of Tupac Shakur in 1996. Sean Combs referred to 50 Cent’s accusations as “nonsense” in a 2016 interview.
Notably, P. Diddy has not been indicted by authorities in connection with Tupac’s murder. However, Tupac’s family has hired an investigator to probe likely connections between Combs and Shakur’s death, following the rapper’s arrest in September 2024.
The P. Diddy and 50 Cent Vodka rivalry
After throwing shades in their songs for years, the 50 Cent – P. Diddy’s feud escalated after they both partnered with competing vodka brands. In 2007, Diddy started partnering with Ciroc Vodka, while 50 Cent joined Effen Vodka in 2016. On the Drink Champs podcast in 2018, 50 Cent compared his Effen brand to Diddy’s Ciroc.
In his words:
“Puff’s is not even vodka. It’s grapes and says, ‘made with vodka,’ you know what I’m saying? Effen is made from wheat from Holland and distilled five times, so it’s a lot less sugar. It’s the right way. And then later, when you have a headache because you finished your full bottle of Ciroc… I told you I was smarter.”
50 Cent said he felt a weird energy from Diddy
50 Cent claimed he felt a “little uncomfortable” after P. Diddy offered to take him shopping.
50 told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024:
“He asked to take me shopping. I thought that was the weirdest s— in the world because that might be something that a man says to a woman.”
50 Cent has also questioned Combs’ sexuality multiple times. He went as far as calling Diddy “fruity” while appearing on The Breakfast Club in 2018. The “In Da Club” singer criticized Diddy’s parties, claiming that he never attended and felt “uncomfortable” about them.
Diddy claimed that 50 Cent loves him and there’s no beef
Although 50 Cent has clearly said that he and P. Diddy are not friends, Diddy claims it’s all love. In 2018, after 50 Cent’s interview with the Drink Champs, Combs denied all the feud speculations.
While appearing on “The Breakfast Club,” Sean Combs said:
“I don’t have no beef with Fif. He loves me. Y’all can’t see that he loves me? You really think that’s hate? You know he loves me.”
P. Diddy further joked that he wants to be 50 Cent’s friend so he can help him make more money.
In his words:
“Me and him could be friends, but he doesn’t want to be my friend. I wanna be his friend so I could teach him everything I know so he could become a better money-getter since I’m the number one money-getter in the world.”
Diddy jokingly added:
“Yo, 50 please be my friend. 50 you’re breaking my heart. Curtis, please be my friend. Please.”
50 Cent shaded P. Diddy amid sexual assault allegations
While fans may be anticipating that P. Diddy and 50 Cent have put their beef to rest, 50 Cent shaded Diddy over his legal troubles
P. Diddy’s legal woes began in November 2023 when his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against him. In the lawsuit, Cassie claimed that she had been sexually assaulted and physically abused by the rapper for over a decade. Although Diddy denied the allegations, he chose to settle out of court. As the scandal unfolded, other women came forward with similar allegations. Diddy had to step aside as chairman of Revolt, a TV network he co-founded. Meanwhile, his rival 50 Cent grabbed the opportunity to shade him. 50 took to his X (formerly Twitter) page to express his interest in acquiring the company.
He tweeted:
“I’ll buy that from you, playboy, for the low because you know Cadillac and AT&T gonna pull out. I’ll give you a few dollars for it now! Sell it to me, then we can be friends. I’m serious, call my phone.”
50 Cent is making a Netflix documentary about the allegations against Diddy
With multiple lawsuits of sexual assault and abuse filed against Diddy, 50 Cent seems to be having a field day.
After Homeland Security raided Diddy’s homes in March 2024, 50 Cent posted on X:
“Now it’s not ‘Diddy do it,’ it’s ‘Diddy done.’ They don’t come like that unless they’ve got a case.”
In December 2023, 50 Cent announced that his production company was working on a documentary about the sexual assault allegations against Diddy. He stated that proceeds from the documentary, titled “Diddy Do It,” would go to victims of sexual assault and rape. In 2024, Netflix secured exclusive distribution rights to the docuseries. As of October 2024, Diddy remains in jail, having been denied bail twice. Meanwhile, the documentary is reportedly under production.
