SARS Nigeria renamed, officers issued new uniform

by Staff writer

Following Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s order to have the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigerian police re-ordered, the department has been renamed Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and will now only tackle cases of armed robbery and kidnapping.

According to a statement released by the police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, the new FSARS will be working under a new commissioner appointed for it.

This will ensure that FSARS will operate as an intelligence-driven unit and will be restricted to the prevention and control of armed robbery and kidnapping cases in the country.

FSARS is only allowed apprehend offenders linked to the stated offences only.

All FSARS personnel will also undergo an immediate medical/psychological evaluation and a new uniform with clear name tags has been designed for them.

Henceforth, FSARS personnel will not perform Stop and Search duties except when on distress call in response to armed robbery and kidnapping offences only.
