The Police Service Commission (PSC) has noted down names of 37 ex-SARS officers who will be dismissed from the police service.
24 other former operatives of the now-disbanded police unit will also be prosecuted for various acts of professional misconduct.
This development came following a report by the Presidential Panel on Reform of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad set up by the Federal Government in 2018.
The report was presented to the chairman of the Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith, in Abuja on Friday, October 16, 2020, by the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu.
The report recommended the immediate dismissal of 37 ex-SARS officers and the prosecution of 24 others. Ojukwu called for the speedy implementation of the panel recommendations.
According to Tony Ojukwu of the NHRC, the reform panel also directed the Inspector-General of Police to unravel the identity of 22 officers involved in the violation of the human rights of innocent citizens.
