Exclusive pictures of COVID-19 patients at the Onikan Isolation Centre, Lagos

Lagos, the Nigerian city with the highest number of coronavirus cases, last month converted a 5,000-capacity stadium to an isolation centre for COVID-19 patients.

The Onikan Stadium was renamed Mobolaji Johnson Stadium last year after it was renovated to international standards.

Today, the sports arena has been converted to a 110-bed capacity isolation centre in the heat of Lagos State’s effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Onikan Covid-19 Isolation Centre was built by the Lagos State Government in partnership with Guaranty Trust Bank, a leading commercial bank in Lagos.

The emergency isolation centre will serve to ease some of the pressure on the Yaba Infectious Diseases Centre.
