Nigerian popular musician Davido has denied being part of the #ENDSARS protest that happened in Abuja on Sunday, October 11.
Recall the superstar was captured on video marching with the protesters in Abuja on Sunday – an act that earned him widespread acclaim among many Nigerians.
But during a brief chat with the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police, Frank Mba on Monday, October 12, Davido denied taking part in the protests.
The 27-year-old singer told Mr Mba that he was only there to “calm things down” because the protesters are his fans.
Davido had demanded that his planned meeting with the IGP be done in the open and the police PRO said to him:
“How can you come here for a closed-door meeting, when you were protesting yesterday and you identified with the protesters?”
Davido quickly responded to this, denying that he partook in the protests.
The “Fem” singer to police spokesperson:
“I did not protest, I was not there to protest. I was there to calm things down because the protesters are my fans.”
