2020 is a year a lot of people will not forget in a hurry. For the majority of us, it was the first time of going face-to-face with a global pandemic. Rarely used words like isolation, quarantine and social distancing suddenly became the stuff on everyone’s lips.

Before 2020, masks were what we saw doctors wearing in surgery rooms. Last year, it became an important item for survival. Though it scared the hell out of a lot of us, 2020 also taught us a lot. It made understand the importance of family, of staying together, and of being there for each other.

2020 also gave us more reason to appreciate art. We couldn’t go to clubs but we learnt that as long as the song is good, you can vibe to it from anywhere. We set up dance parties in our cozy sitting rooms and took turns to show our appreciation of good rhythm.

For Nigerians, 2020 was also many people’s first time of experiencing a massive youth protest. The Nigerian #EndSARS protest of 2020 was one of its kind – it was the very first time of Nigerian young people rising up against the country’s bad leaders. Though it ended terribly after security operatives turned against the people they were supposed to be protecting, killing and injuring several peaceful protesters, however, the protests left the intended mark and the Nigerian youth of this generation will forever be remembered for their bravery.

We owe gratitude to all the talented Nigerian musicians that took care of us during the entire confusion of 2020 with their art and creations. Some of them couldn’t work and had to use innovative ways to get out their art.
