At the age of 16, he moved back to the United States to attend college. He enrolled at Oakwood University in Alabama with Business Administration as his course of study.

Dropping out of school

Davido has already started manifesting his passion for music while at Oakwood. He would bring musical equipment to school and would abandon his classwork to focus on making beats.

He collaborated with his cousins B-Red and Sina Rambo who also attended the same school and together they formed a band called KB International.

Eventually, not being able to effectively combine school work and music, Davido dropped out of the university. According to reports, his father was totally upset with this move.

Relocating to London

Davido relocated briefly to London shortly after dropping out of Oakwood University. While in London, he took voice lessons and engaged in other activities that would help him master the art of music.

After much pressure, Davido bowed down. To please him, his father funded Nigeria’s Babcock University to create their first-ever Music Department that would admit Davido.

Davido finally graduated from Babcock in 2015, by which time he has already become one of Nigeria’s biggest young acts.

Even though Davido’s first album “Omo Baba Olowo” was negatively reviewed by music critics and rated 1 star by many who criticized both the songs’ lyrical content and delivery, it achieved success in charts.
