Omotola mauled on Twitter over comment on Lekki #ENDSARS shooting

Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has gotten on the wrong side of Twitter Nigerians after suggesting the reports of Lekki Toll Gate deaths might be “sensationalized”.

The 42-year-old actress wrote in a tweet posted Friday afternoon, October 23:

“If people died during the Lekki Toll Assault, let their people speak out please and if there were no deaths then enough with the sensationalization because it does not remove from the crime that happened. PEACEFUL PROTESTERS WERE ATTACKED. WHY? BY WHOM! #EndImpunityinNigeria.”

The actress’s comment angered a lot of Nigerians who felt she was downplaying the Lekki shooting incident when soldiers opened fire on unarmed protesters.

Following the backlash, the actress apologized and said her post was misunderstood. She also said she will delete the post.
