Funke Akindele’s ‘Omo Ghetto’ becomes highest-grossing Nollywood movie

Funke Akindele’s 2020 film Omo Ghetto: The Saga has surpassed ‘The Wedding Party’ to become the highest-grossing Nigerian movie of all time.

The hit comedy film has grossed N468million naira and counting since its release in December 2020.

Omo Ghetto: The Saga features an ensemble cast which includes some of Nollywood’s best actors including Funke Akindele, Chioma Akpotha, Nancy Isime, Eniola Badmus, Tina Mba, Timini Egbuson, Alexx Ekubo, etc.

Released on Christmas Day, the movie grossed over ₦189 million in its opening week, becoming the first Nollywood movie to gross over N100 million in its opening week.

Omo Ghetto’s box office success amidst the coronavirus pandemic that has dealt a blow to the global film industry comes as a surprise to many, some of whom have praised Funke Akindele’s marketing acumen.
