Kano barber arrested for giving clients blasphemous haircut

A barber from Benue State named Elijah Ode has been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Corps for giving his clients a blasphemous haircut.

The incident took place in the Sabongari area of the state and, according to emerging reports, Elijah Ode has been charged with blasphemy and remanded in prison.

According to activist Smith Aliko, the barber who is also a student was arrested last Wednesday, January 27, after two of his customers were caught with hairstyles considered blasphemous to the Islamic religion.

The religious police claimed the hairstyles depicted an “Islamic inscription”.

Elijah Ode was reportedly arraigned on Tuesday, 2nd February, and thereafter remanded him in prison.

The date for the resumption of his trial is yet to be known.
