Grammy-nominated American rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, has died.
The rapper’s death has been confirmed in a family statement which read in part:
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days.”
The 50-year-old rapper was hospitalized a week ago after suffering a heart attack, reportedly caused by a drug overdose.
DMX was put on life support but reports later emerged that all his major organs had shut down, prompting his family to make the difficult decision to let him go.
DMX is survived by his 15 children – four from ex-wife of 14 years, Tashera Simmons, and the other 11 from his other relationships.
