Who is Dapo Abiodun?

Dapo Abiodun is a Nigerian politician and entrepreneur. He has been the governor of Ogun State since 2019. Abiodun is running his second term in office under the All Progressive Congress (APC) political party, as of the time of writing this article.

Dapo Abiodun was the Director of Heyden Petroleum and founder of First Power Limited. The Ogun State Governor was also the board chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). 

Dapo Abiodun’s full name is Prince Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun. He was born to his parents on May 29, 1960, in Iperu Remo, Ogun state. Governor Dapo is 64 years old as of May 2024.

Abiodun bagged a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University. He also obtained a degree in Accounting from Kennesaw State University, Georgia.

About Dapo Abiodun’s parents and siblings

Dapo Abiodun is the son of Dr. Emmanuel Adesanya Abiodun (father) and Mrs. Victoria Abiodun (mother). Dapo’s father died in August 2021 at age 89. According to reports gathered by DNB Stories Africa, the Ogun State Governor’s parents were educationists.

Prince Dapo Abiodun reportedly has three siblings – Sade, Seye, and Seyi. However, further details about the politician’s parent and siblings are scarce in the media.

Dapo Abiodun and Bamidele Abiodun have been married for over three decades.

As of the time of publishing this article, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun is married to his wife, Bamidele Abiodun. The couple married in 1990 and their union was blessed with five children.

Sadly, Governor Abiodun and his wife, Bamidele, lost their first child in 2017, leaving them with four kids.

Dapo Abiodun’s son, DJ Olu, passed away in 2017.

Prince Dapo Abiodun’s wife Bamidele Abiodun is a Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist. However, she is popularly known as the wife of the Ogun State Governor and the first lady of the state. Bamidele was born on July 16, 1966. She is 57 years old as of May 2024.

Bamidele’s father, Professor Oladipo Oduye, is a former deputy vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan, while her mother, Mrs. Abimbola Wosilat Oduye, is late. Dapo Abiodun’s wife has a degree in Zoology from the University of Ibadan.

About Dapo Abiodun’s marriage to Bamidele Abiodun

Dapo Abiodun and Bamidele Abiodun were childhood sweethearts, before tying the knot in 1990. As of May 2024, the Ogun State Governor and the first lady have been married for over three decades. However, the exact timeline of Dapo Abiodun’s marriage to Bamidele Abiodun remains unclear.

About Dapo Abiodun’s children

Dapo Abiodun had five children, two sons, and three daughters, with his wife Bamidele Abiodun. Unfortunately, the couple lost one of their sons, Gbemiga Abiodun, aka DJ Olu, in 2017. 

Dapo Abiodun’s son Gbemiga was a popular DJ and Lagos socialite. DJ Olu, who died at age 25, was singer Davido’s friend and DJ. While the full details of Dapo Abiodun’s son’s death remain unclear, he was found dead in his car alongside his friend, Chime Amaechi. They reportedly died from an overdose of tequila, even though the Abiodun family refuted the claims. In October 2023, the Ogun State Governor set up a scholarship scheme for 550 students in honor of his late son.

Information about Governor Abiodun’s other kids is scarcely available in the media as of the time of writing this article. Besides his four remaining children, Dapo Abiodun “adopted” athlete and world record holder Tobi Amusan as his daughter in 2022.
