Court stops Obaseki from partaking in PDP primaries

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has barred Governor Godwin Obaseki from participating in the PDP governorship primaries election slated for Thursday, June 25, 2020.

The order was given by Justice E.A Obile of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.

According to the court documents, one of the governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, had vowed not to step down for Obaseki and taken the matter to court.

Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama in collaboration of some other PDP members filed a suit demanding that Obaseki who just recently joined the party after a fracas with his previous party the APC be restrained from taking part in the primaries election.

The suit was filed on several grounds. One, Ogbeide-Ihama stated that Obaseki recently joined the party and that only those who purchased the forms during the stipulated window period should be allowed to partake in the primaries.

It should be recalled that Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, was recently granted a waiver by the PDP after his defection from the All Progressives Congress.

Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama also questioned the validity of Obaseki’s certificates.
