FG reportedly moves to shut down BBNaija show over COVID-19 complaints

There are reports going round that Nigeria’s information minister Lai Mohammed has requested the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to shut down the ongoing BBNaija Season 5 reality show.

In some of the reports, it is being alleged that the FG’s move to shut down the show is due to possible spread of coronavirus among inmates and crew members of the show.

It was also reported that the NBC had held meetings involving deliberations on possible violation of COVID-19 protocols during the show’s 71-week run.

The makers of the BBNaija show, MultiChoice, reportedly addressed the concerns of the broadcasting authority and provided detailed explanations on measures taken in collaboration with the Lagos State Government to ensure the safety of housemates and all others involved in making the show.

Multichoice reportedly worked with the Lagos State Safety Commission in screening the housemates and decontaminating the BBNaija house before they gave the nod for the show’s kick-off.

This is still a developing story. The reports that Nigeria’s Federal Government has moved to shut down the ongoing BBNaija Lockdown show is still largely unconfirmed.

This post will be updated as more evidence comes along.
