Naira Marley in court again over Abuja concert, fined N200K

Nigerian singer, Naira Marley has appeared before an Abuja mobile court again, a day after his arraignment in a Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court in Oshodi where he was fined N100K for flouting the interstate travel ban.

Naira Marley’s arraignment in Abuja is for violating COVID-19 protocols.

While Naira Marley faced a one-count charge of breaking the presidential ban on interstate travel during COVID-19 period in Lagos, the FCT Administration had filed a four-count charge against him for hosting a concert in Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja, in clear violation of set COVID-19 directives on interstate movement and public gatherings.

After the charges were read to him, Naira Marley pleaded guilty and the presiding magistrate Idayat Akanni awarded him a fine of N200, 000.

Naira Marley whose real name is Azeez Fashola had earlier been arraigned before a Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court in Oshodi for flouting the presidential ban on interstate travel when he flew from Lagos to Abuja for his June 13 concert.

Naira Marley’s June 13 concert held in Abuja was heavily criticized in the media after pictures and videos of the event showed government’s set directives for COVID-19 prevention were violated.
