The electoral commission of Uganda has declared President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement winner of the January 14 presidential election.

According to the commission, Yoweri Museveni won the election by defeating his top opponent Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform at the just-concluded elections.

Following the declaration, the 76-year-old man will be sworn in on May 12 for his sixth term in office.

The Uganda electoral commission said Yoweri Museveni polled over 5 million votes (5,851,037) while his closest opponent, Bobi Wine, polled around 3 million (3,475,298).

Bobi Wine whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, 38, has rejected the results, citing massive rigging and voter fraud and ultimately declared himself “President-Elect”.
