Who is Charles Soludo?
Charles Soludo is a Nigerian politician and economics professor. He is the incumbent Governor of Anambra State and he was also the former Governor and Chairman of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Charles Soludo’s full name is Charles Chukwuma Soludo. He was born on July 28, 1960, in Isuofia Town, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State. He was born and raised by his parents – Pa Nze Simeon Nwankwo Soludo and Mrs Mgbafor. Charles Soludo is 61 years old, as of March 2022.
Charles Soludo lost his mother at a young age. He had his primary and secondary education in Uga Boys High School, Anambra State. He proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Enugu State where he bagged a first-class honours degree in Economics in 1984. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master’s degree in Economics from the same University of Nigeria (UNN) in 1987.
He also later obtained a Doctorate degree (PhD) in Economics from the same university in 1989. Charles Soludo became a professor of Economics in 1998.

Nonye Soludo is the legally wedded wife of Professor Charles Soludo. Her full name is Nonyelum Frances Soludo. She was born on July 31, 1970, and she is currently 51 years old.
She hails from Isuofia Town in Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State – the same place as her husband. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1995. She later proceeded to do her Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance at the University of Westminster, in the United Kingdom in 2006.
Nonye Soludo, who is now the first lady of Anambra State, is also a businesswoman. She is the founder and CEO of a food company called “Royal Foods”. The company is located both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. She is also a blogger and the managing director of a real estate company called “Charles Frances Properties” in London.
She owns the health and lifestyle blog called Nonye’s Healthy Living.

How Charles Soludo started his political career
Charles Soludo has always had a knack for scholarly duties right from when he was young. He is an expert in the business of macroeconomics and he has been a visiting scholar and a consultant for various international organizations and institutions.
In 2003, Charles Soludo was appointed as the chief economics adviser to Olusegun Obasanjo, a two-term President of Nigeria. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of the National Planning Commission of Nigeria. In 2004, he was appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He was preceded by Joseph Oladele Sanusi and succeeded by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi in 2009.
In 2009, Soludo picked the nomination form to run for the Governor of Anambra State under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Unfortunately, he lost to Peter Obi who belonged to the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). The election was largely described as “free and fair” with Peter Obi winning by a large margin.
In 2013, Soludo joined the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and picked a nomination form to run for the governorship election. Unfortunately, he was disqualified by the APGA screening committee.
That didn’t stop him. In 2019, he was appointed as a member of the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to President Mohammed Buhari. In 2021, he picked another nomination form to run for the governorship election again, and this time he won the election. He assumed office on 17th March 2022 as the incumbent Governor of Anambra State. He is preceded by Willie Obiano, the former Governor of Anambra State.
