How Asake started his music career
Asake started doing music professionally in 2015 after he became a backup singer for popular skit maker and entertainer Broda Shaggi. He collaborated with Shaggi to release his 2019 single titled “Star”.
Asake gained recognition in January 2020 following the release of his single “Lady”. The song was produced by Blaque Beats and received a lot of social media attention after it was reposted by top social media celebrities like Sydney Talker, Tunde Ednut, and Broda Shaggi.
He dropped another single in the same 2020 titled “Mr Money”, a freestyle he did with Magicsticks. The song once again received massive attention against Asake’s expectations, eventually becoming one of the top trending songs of the year. The song even earned him the nickname “Mr Money”. Despite “Mr Money”‘s success, it was Asake’s other single “Omo Ope” that endeared him to music boss, Olamide. And this would mark the beginning of great things for the singer.
According to Asake, his friend, Yhemolee, had played one of his songs to Olamide. Olamide later invited him to his house and asked if he would like to join the YBNL family. Asake was unveiled as the latest signee of Olamide’s YBNL record label on February 8, 2022. He and Olamide later did a remix of his song “Omo Ope”.
