Chimamanda Adichie’s mother dies just months after the writer lost father

Renowned Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has lost her mother, Mrs Grace Ifeoma Adichie.

Adichie’s mother is reported to have died on Monday, March 1, in Awka, Anambra State after a brief illness. She was 78 years old.

The death of Chimamanda’s mother comes barely a year after the award-winning novelist lost her father in June 2020 at the age of 88.

Mrs Grace Ifeoma Adichie was the first female registrar of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

She is survived by her six children: Ijeoma, Uchenna, Chuks, Okechukwu, Chimamanda and Kenechukwu; as well as nine grandchildren, in-law and many relatives.
