Who is John Dumelo?
John Dumelo is a popular Ghanaian actor, farmer, politician, and businessman.
With a career spanning over two decades, John Dumelo has grown to become one of the biggest and most influential actors in the Ghanaian movie industry a.k.a Ghallywood. John Dumelo is also one of the Ghanaian actors that achieved big fame in Nigeria.
John Dumelo’s full name is John Kofi Setor Dumelo. He was born as the last and only son of three children on February 3, 1984, in Hohoe, Volta Region in Ghana. His father, Mr John Dumelo, was a civil engineer, and his mother, Mrs Antoinette Dumelo a customs officer.
John Dumelo has a degree in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana before proceeding to GIMPA’s School of Public Service and Governance.
He launched his acting career in 1991 at the tender age of 7 while still in his primary school called Christ the King International School in Ghana. He was selected by Gama to feature as ‘Saka’ in the movie ‘Baby Thief’.
He went on to star in the television series titled ‘Suncity’ and ‘About To Wed’ upon his graduation from the university. He had his major break in 2008 after starring as the king in the blockbuster movie ‘The King Is Mine’.
John Dumelo: Political Career
John launched his political career in 2019 when he contested and won the primary elections as a parliamentary candidate in 2019 under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) (Ghana) to represent the Ayawaso West Wougon constituency.
Unfortunately, he lost the general elections in 2020 to the New Patriotic Party incumbent, Lydia Alhassan. However, he was appointed as the NDC’s Director of Operations for the Pro-NDC youth group by Ghana’s ex-president, H.E John Dramani Mahama before he contested in 2019.
As a businessman, John Dumelo is the CEO of “J. Melo Fashion Brand” which he launched in 2012.
John Dumelo’s marriage and wedding
John Dumelo is happily married to Gifty Mawunya Nkornu and their union is blessed with a child. The couple had a celebrity wedding on May 12, 2018, at Royal Senchi Resort in Akosombo, Accra, Ghana.
The event was graced by many big personalities and public figures, including the likes of Ghana’s former president, John Mahama, Nigerian superstar actor, Ramsey Nouah and other Ghallywood stars like Nadia Buari, Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah, and Prince Osei.
How John Dumelo met his wife
It is not exactly known how and when John Dumelo and his darling wife, Gifty Mawunya, met each other, as the two had kept their relationship away from the public until after their engagement.
However, it was speculated that it was Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari that matchmade the couple as she was alleged to be a close friend of Gifty.

Gifty Mawunya Nkornu is the lawfully wedded wife of Ghanaian actor John Dumelo and the mother of his son.
Gifty is a UK-based lawyer with two different academic degrees. She was born on January 3, is reported to be in her mid-thirties in age.
She obtained her first degree from Central University, often cited as the largest private Christian University in Ghana, and her Law degree from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2016.
According to information gathered by DNB Stories Africa, John Dumelo’s wife, Gifty Mawunya Nkornu, is the sister to Selassie Ibrahim, a popular actress and head of Smarttys Management. Gifty is also alleged to be a close friend of Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari.
John Dumelo’s children
As of the time of writing this article, John Dumelo and his wife, Gifty, has only one child – a son named John Dumelo Jnr., after his father.
The boy was born on October 16, 2018. John shared the news of his son’s birth on social media shortly after he was born.
