Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, better known by his stage name “Mr P” has been dragged to court by an organization called West Africa Youth Support and Development Forum (WAYSDF) over an alleged breach of contract.
According to suit documents sighted by DNB Stories Africa, Mr P of the just-reconciled P-Square band was allegedly paid 70% of the contract sum of N4 million to perform live at the inauguration ceremony of the West African Championship League at Steven Keshi Stadium Asaba on June 16, 2019, of which he failed to show up.
According to one Ambassador Prosper Ibezim who is a member of the organization’s board of directors, Mr P’s failure to show up at the event cost the organization over N33 million in losses.
He further stated that all attempts by the organization to reach Mr P and settle the matter out of court proved abortive.
The organization’s lawyer, Mr Afamefuna Akonanya said that Mr P’s counsel has filed an objection asking the court to strike out the case for want of jurisdiction.
The presiding judge, Justice I. J. Ndigwe of the Federal High Court, however, adjourned the case to April 13, 2022, for further hearing.
