Who is Stonebwoy?
Stonebwoy, pronounced as “Stoneboy”, is an award-winning Ghanaian Afropop, dancehall and reggae musician. He owns a record label called Burniton Music Group. He won the “Best International Act: Africa” category at the 2015 BET Awards.
In the same year, Ghana Music Awards recognized him as the artiste of the year. The Ghanaian-born musician is often described as the king of reggae and dancehall in Africa. He is also an actor and has featured in the movies like “Happy Death Day” (2014) and “My Name Is Ramadan” (2018).
Stonebwoy’s early life and education
Stonebwoy’s full name is Livingstone Etse Satekla. He was born on March 5, 1988. He is 34 years old as of April 2022. The Ghanaian entertainer was born in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. He grew up there with his parents, Mr. G N K Satekla and Catherine Ametepe Satekla.
After completing his primary education, he enrolled at Methodist Day Secondary School. According to reports, he and Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie were classmates at Methodist. Stonebwoy later proceeded to the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) to study Marketing.
How Stonebwoy started his career
Stonebwoy developed an interest in music and scriptwriting at an early age. He began writing scripts and acting dramas in his fourth year in primary school. His early interest in scriptwriting also helped him improve his songwriting skills.
Stonebwoy’s music career
Stonebwoy sings in the Jamaican Patois. He made his professional debut in the music industry in 2012 with the release of his first song “Climax” which became an instant hit. The single featured reggae artist, Samini. In the same year, Stonebwoy released another hit single “Ghetto Love” featuring Liberian-born singer, Irene Logan.
Following the success of his two singles, the Afro Pop star never looked back. He went ahead to release his first album, “Grade 1 Album”. This album was released in 2012 and has 17 songs.
Stonebwoy has been dubbed “the King of Afro-Dance Hall” in the media. He released his second album titled “Necessary Evil” on November 23, 2014. Unlike the first album, it has 29 songs. Some of the tracks include, “Gbedegbede”, “Pull up”, “Candy”, “Jamming” featuring Kwaw Kese, etc.
Sadly, Stonebwoy’s mother, Catherine Ametepe Satekla died on 29 July 2015. Following her death, the musician released an album in her honour. The album titled, “Epistles of Mama” was released on December 12, 2017. It featured world-class musicians like Sean Paul, Amaarae, Burna Boy, King Promise, etc. The album has 24 tracks.
According to reports sighted by DNB Stories Africa, “Epistles Of Mama” is Stonebwoy’s most successful album to date. Reggaeville ranked it as the second-best album in the world. It was also acknowledged by YouTube after generating over 10 million views.
Stonebwoy has been very consistent with his music career. In 2020, the Ghanaian artiste released another album titled “Anloga Junction”. This time, he collaborated with international musicians like Diamond Platnumz, Zlatan, Nasty C and Keri Hilson. The reggae star hinted at his intention of releasing a 5th album in 2021.

As of April 2022, Stonebwoy is married to his dental surgeon wife, Louisa Ansong. They had their wedding ceremony on June 16, 2017, in Accra, Ghana. The wedding was attended by several top African celebrities. Stonebwoy currently lives in Accra, Ghana with his wife and 2 children.

Stonebwoy’s wife, Dr Louisa Ansong was born and raised in Ghana. She is a dental surgeon and fashion entrepreneur by profession. Dr Louisa Ansong was born on January 20, 1991. After completing her high school education at SOS-Hermann Gmeiner College, she proceeded to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to study Dental Surgery. There, she finished as the overall best student in 2016.

Stonebwoy and fellow musician, Shatta Wale, are known to be rivals even though they’re related by blood. In 2019, during the 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, a fight erupted between Stonebwoy’s team and Shatta Wale and his fans.
Stonebwoy, who was just announced as the dancehall reggae artist of the year was seen pulling out a gun on stage. However, he claimed that it was done in self-defence.
They were both disqualified by the organizers of the award show. The two Ghanaian dance hall artistes were also arrested and charged to court the next day. They pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 each. After the awful incident, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale ended their longtime beef and embraced peace.

While Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale are not direct brothers, they are cousins. Shatta Wale’s mother, Madam Evelyn Avemegah, revealed in 2019 that Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale are cousins, having come from the same Ahiable family in the Volta Region of Ghana.
