Sarkodie is a Ghanaian rapper, songwriter and businessman.
Sarkodie’s full name is Michael Owusu Addo. He was born on July 10, 1985, in Tema, Ghana. He is 36 years old as of April 2022. He was raised in Koforidua by his mother, Emma Maame Aggrey as the fourth child of five children. Two of his siblings are identified as Hannah and Veronica Addo.
The 36-year old rapper completed his primary education in Tema, Ghana, and his secondary education at Tema Methodist Senior High School where he obtained his West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE). After completing his secondary education, he proceeded to earn a degree in Graphic Design from the Independent Project Monitoring Company (IPMC).
How Sarkodie started his career
Sarkodie began his music career in 2007 as an underground rapper. He appeared on Adom FM’s popular rap competition “Kasahara level”. It was through this rap competition that he met his former manager, Duncan Williams of Duncwills Entertainment. He also met musicians like Items and Castro who introduced him to Hammer, an established record producer and the CEO of Three Last Two Entertainment.
Impressed by his rap flows, Hammer decided to feature him on his two songs and in his “Volta Regime” album. Following this collaboration, Sarkodie recorded his debut album “Make” which was produced by Kill Beatz and Jayso. The album featured guest appearances by Kwaw Kese, J-town, Sway, and Paedae of R2bees. He also performed alongside Busta Rhymes at the Busta Rhymes Live in Ghana concert in 2009.
In 2012, his second album “Rapperholic” was released with guest appearances from Efya, Chidinma, Obiafour, Mugeez of R2bees, Jayso, and EL. The album received positive reviews and earned him his first BET nomination and win.
In 2014, he released his third album “Sarkology” which features guest appearances from Davido, Tiwa Savage, Fuse ODG, Banky W, 2face Idibia, Vector, Stonebwoy, Raquel, Burna Boy, and a host of others.
Aside from music, the rapper is also a philanthropist and businessman. In 2013, he launched his foundation “The Sarkodie Foundation” which is aimed at supporting underprivileged children. As a businessman, Sarkodie is the owner of “Sark by Yas” a clothing line that was launched on April 27, 2013.

According to reports sighted by DNB Stories Africa, Sarkodie released a song in 2017 which describes how he fell in love with his wife, Tracy. The song titled “Just In Case” is also a declaration of his undying love for her and his appreciation to her for sticking with him all along.
According to Tracy, her family initially disapproved of her relationship with Sarkodie because he wasn’t fully established and was often referred to as an “area boy”. The couple eventually got married on July 17, 2018, in a traditional ceremony followed by a white wedding on July 22, five days later.
