A musician and a pianist have been arrested in Lagos for robbery.
Men of the RRS unit of the Lagos Police Command arrested Chinonso Michael and Chimelu Victory on Wednesday in the Ajah area of Lagos.
Chinonso Michael, 25, is a musician while Chimelu Victory, 22, is a pianist – both suspects confessed to the crime of robbery, blaming COVID-19 hunger.
The two entertainers were arrested in the company of 5 other suspects at their home at 4, Modupe Young Thomas Estate, Ajah, Lagos.
Local press explained the crime incident that led to the arrest of Chinonso and Chimelu.
The two were arrested by a decoy team of the police unit. Both suspects had on April 10, 2020 ordered an iPhone 11 Pro Max from the online platform – Jiji.com.
The iPhone valued at N450,000 was ordered on a pay-on-delivery basis. On receipt of the phone from a delivery man, one Anifowoshe Itunu, Chimelu, the buyer, generated a fake alert to the rider first and later, with the assistance of Chinonso escaped from the apartment after they had tied down the despatch rider with a bottle of beer.
The suspects then sold the iPhone 11 Pro Max to a buyer in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos, for a sum of N350,000 transferred into Chinoso’s bank account. The suspects, who jumped off from the first floor of their apartment and ran naked into the streets on sighting the police, later confessed to the crime.
They blamed hunger and hardship brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic for their turning to crime.
Both suspects have been transferred to SARS for further investigations and prosecution.
