Who is Kaffy?
Kaffy is a renowned Nigerian dancer, choreographer, dance instructor, and fitness coach. She is known for breaking the Guinness World Record for ‘Longest Dance Party’ at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon in 2006.
She is also the founder and owner of Imagneto Dance Company.
Kaffy’s full name is Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau. She was born on June 30 1980 into a wealthy family, spending most of her childhood days abroad. However, things turned the other way for the 41-year-old dancer after her parent separated and she was left at the mercy of her mother.
She attended Yaba College of Technology for a while before proceeding to Olabisi Onabanjo University to obtain a Diploma Degree in Data Processing, though she grew up nurturing the thoughts of becoming an aeronautic engineer.
Kaffy came into the limelight as a dancer in 2006 after she broke the Guinness Book of Record for ‘Long Dance Party’ dancing for 55 hours and 40 mins with her dance group.
However, the dancer is said to have begun her career in 2002. Kaffy has featured in several award-winning music videos for Nigerian superstar artists like P-Square, D’banj, Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay, and even some international top artists.
She has also judged some reality TV shows like Malta Guinness Street Dance, Project Fame West Africa, Dance with Peter.
Kaffy’s marriage and wedding
Kaffy was once married to Joseph Ameh, an ex-music director and drummer for Nigerian music duo, P-Square.
Kaffy got married to her ex-husband on June 2, 2012, in an upscale wedding at Bespoke Centre, Lekki, before they got divorced in January 2022 after 10 years of maintaining an “off the screen” marriage.
The dancer had kept her marital life away from the public’s view until she hit the media in January 2022 announcing her divorce. The dancer cum fitness coach shared her experience and what led to her breakup via her Instagram handle.
Though there has been speculation about her crashed marriage in 2021, she did not debunk or affirm the rumour not until January 2022.
Kaffy’s divorce
Kaffy took to her IG page on January 11, 2022, to announce that her union with Joseph Ameh was over. The dancer was seen giving thanks to God over her failed marriage as she shared her experience and also explained what led to the divorce.
According to her, she was only sharing the experience for others to learn from her and not to breed hate. She explained that break-up must not be toxic as she urged everyone to understand that life is not all about reacting to the world and everything happening inside it.
She further explained that her marriage did not work out the way she wanted and had crashed for many reasons, making it clear that ending the marriage was to ensure that she and Joseph both grow into what they were supposed to be. According to her, she had always wanted him to be the best version of himself.
Kaffy also said that she had been in a bitter place when it came to her marriage as she was frustrated and angry, but she has now gotten freedom from that space as she is currently in a space of healing at the moment.
She had initially announced her divorce via her podcast episodes called “Just Kaffy” in early January before bringing it to the public domain via her Instagram page.
She did well to make it known that she is single at the moment but not searching.
About Kaffy’s ex-husband, Joseph Ameh
Joseph Ameh is the ex-husband of Kaffy and the father of her two children. According to reports gathered by DNB Stories Africa, he was an ex-drummer and music director for the twin duo, P-Square and he is fondly called “Pappy J”.
Not much is known about Joseph Ameh’s background, educational qualification, or even his present job as he only came into the limelight after his divorce from Kaffy. Joseph Ameh is reportedly 33 years old.
Kaffy’s children
Kaffy is the proud mother of two children, a girl and a boy. The children are named Sean Oluwatosin Joseph Ameh and Eliana Ameh respectively.
Detailed information about the children is scarce in the media, except for the pictures their mother shares often on her social media pages.
Kaffy even shared the video of the children when they gave her a surprise dance while she was celebrating her 40th birthday.
