Neighbors later found her unconscious and rushed her to Maitama General Hospital.
Initial reports claimed the hospital refused to admit her without proper identification. However, an eyewitness and Sommie’s alleged neighbor later refuted the claims. He explained that the hospital did not deny her care but faulted their emergency response. Meanwhile, the FCTA Mandate Secretary on Health claimed she was already dead when brought to the hospital around 4:30 a.m.
A security guard identified as Barnabas, who tried to fight off the robbers, was shot and killed during the attack. While initial reports claimed Sommie was targeted in an assassination attempt, more recent accounts indicate it was a general armed robbery within Unique Apartments. Sommie’s death has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many demanding better security and faster emergency response systems across the country.
