Instagram apologizes for flagging #ENDSARS posts as ‘Fake News’

Yesterday, in the heat of the violence that followed the Lekki Toll Gate incident when soldiers opened fire on unarmed protesters, many took to different social media platforms to share their personal experiences and encounters, mostly to inform and warn people of trouble spots to avoid.

But Instagram were flagging many of the posts relating to #ENDSARS as “Fake News” and taking them down – an action that left countless of people extremely disappointed.

The social media platform has apologized over the issue, saying the problem was from their system and has been rectified now.

Instagram’s PR team posted their apology on Twitter:

“Yesterday our systems were incorrectly flagging content in support of #EndSARS, and marking posts as false. We are deeply sorry for this. The issue has now been resolved, and we apologize for letting our community down in such a time of need.”
