In December 2023, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed charges against Dozy Mmobuosi for allegedly falsifying financial statements and other reports of his company, Tingo Group. SEC also accused Mmobuosi of conspiracy and deceiving investors through false SEC filings.
According to US Attorney Damian Williams, Mmobuosi allegedly orchestrated a scheme to inflate Tingo Group’s financial statements, making the companies appear profitable. Between 2019 and 2023, Mmobuosi allegedly misrepresented Tingo Mobile and Tingo Foods as profitable businesses generating hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.
