On December 9, 2024, local police arrested Luigi Mangione at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The CEO who was shot to death on December 4, 2024, was in New York City to attend a conference.
After searching Mangione, the police found a 3D-printed weapon similar to the one used to carry out the crime. They reportedly also found a fake New Jersey driver’s license with the name “Mark Rosario,” the same name allegedly used by Mangione to check into a hostel in Manhattan. The police also recovered a handwritten document by Mangione about the American healthcare system.

Luigi Mangione faces eleven state charges and four federal charges, including murder through a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, and stalking. Mangione pled not guilty on December 23, 2024, and US attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo is representing him. Notably, Luigi Mangione’s lawyer is married to Marc Agnifilo, who serves as Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ lawyer in his sex trafficking charges.
