Why does God allow bad things to happen?

by Staff writer

A car crash claims the life of a Christian college student on her way home, a faithful pastor receives a cancer diagnosis, a family is away on vacation only to receive the call that their house was destroyed in a fire.

One of the most common questions believers and unbelievers alike ask is why a loving and all-powerful God would allow bad things to happen.

When many believers are asked this question, they freeze, not knowing what to say.

Some suffering is caused by bad choices, true. But some are also caused by random nature itself, for example: earthquakes, floods, diseases, etc.

Such as the case of a little baby born with a genetic defect that caused him or her to die horribly after suffering for many months.

One of the most common arguments atheists challenge Christians with is the so-called “problem of pain.”

If there’s an all-powerful, loving God, why do bad things still happen?

As a believer or non-believer, what is your answer to this emotionally charged question?

  1. God allows bad things to happen so as to prove Satan a liar.
It all started in the garden of Eden when Satan accused that God's way of rulership is wrong,he was of the opinion that Man can rule themselves independent of God,to set the record straight, our loving God have give humans an opportunity to see for themselves if they can successfully rule themselves, the end result is what we are going through now.But then God has not abandon Us.In his own due time,he going to correct all wrong brought in by Satan and his demon. To learn more about this, log on to jw.org. Thanks.

  2. The day we understand the reason why every thing happens and the day we understand God, He ceases to be God, that's what my father told me and that's how I choose to look at this topic.
