Someone shared on the question-and-answer site Quora:
I’m 16. I have a medical condition (personal). I’m going to die in 7 days (give or take 1-2 days). How should I spend them?
My parents are dead, so I’m living with a host. I know that recreational drugs would be fun, but I’m not sure whether I should do them or not. Everything seems so meaningless right now…

A good user Carmen Hg took time provide this answer…
First of all I want to tell you how sorry I am that you are going through this.
Facing one’s death is possibly the toughest thing on this Earth. I can totally understand how you feel since I am a cancer patient myself with a no longer curable condition, so what I can suggest to you is to make a list of feasible things you could do.
One can tell you to travel for example, but maybe you are too ill for that — even if it is to a close location — and do the ones that appeal to you the most..
You are 16 so I would take in mind what you have not done yet… like for example:
1. Have sex…?
I have no idea if there is a “special person” (boy/girlfriend, crush etc) in your life but if you haven’t had sex I think this is the moment.
When I was 16 I was a virgin so I think if I were in your shoes I wouldn’t want to leave without knowing what all the fuss about the sex is.
What they say about having sex with a loved one is kind of more meaningful than a one night stand is true for many people, but hey aren’t you curious? My advice is: try it!
2. Recreational drugs
I actually am against drugs but hell, if one’s dying anyway…a friend of mine says ecstasy was fun so that’s a suggestion too.
NB: Another user countered this advice, writing: Personally I would stay away from recreational drugs as the ‘hangover’ you’ll experience may make the precious time you have miserable afterward.
3. Food
It also depends if the condition you have makes eating difficult for you, or maybe you don’t have any appetite (my case for example) but there are plenty of delicious food out there. Try something new that you have always wanted to eat (lobster is on my bucket list) and try things you love.
Enjoy!
4. Reach out to people
I had lost contact with two people I loved very deeply. I contacted one and the other contacted me first. Having them in my life again feels like getting home after a long while. I don’t know if there is someone in your life you wish you wouldn’t have lost contact with but if it’s the case don’t be afraid of reaching out, you don’t know what will be their reaction but that is not the point.
The point here is leaving without feeling you have half done issues behind. Call them, write to them. You choose!
5. Surround yourself with people you love and make you feel loved
I read your parents are dead. I’m sorry about that, but what about friends or other relatives? It is important to have someone, spend time with those people.
6. Spend a day with nature
A beach, a forest, whatever you have near by, even just a park. Sit there, you are part of this beautiful creation, try to connect with that feeling.
7. Pet an animal (cat, dog, for example)
Animals give us their love so wholeheartedly, reminding us that even in the darkest times and even if there is no one to turn towards to, they are there. Go to a shelter, walk your neighbour’s dog, for example.
8. Make peace with your higher power
If you don’t believe in anything that is fine, but if you do, talking with a Pastor, a priest, a Rabbi, etc., can give you some peace of mind and soul, it did for me.
Even if it is just talking to God, or whatever you believe in, do so.
I do believe what is happening to you (and me since we are at it together) totally sucks, but I choose to believe this is not the end. I choose to believe death is not the end but part of the journey. We are all heading to that, unfortunately we are going faster than the rest of the people but death is a fact of life.
I cannot think of anything else, but let me tell you if you need to talk about this, my inbox is open for you and even though I don’t know you I send you the biggest and warmest hug ever.
Everything seems meaningless right now, I know that feeling, but not everything is.
Xoxo
