Dahiru Buba, who made nationwide headlines back in 2015 for trekking from Gombe State to Abuja as a sign of his support for President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he is now being mocked for the act.
In a recent interview with the Punch Newspaper, Dahiru Buba disclosed how the long trek had affected his health and how people now mock him for it.
Dahiru Buba who is now 50 years old said he didn’t enter any vehicle while trekking from Gombe to Abuja. He said his legs were swollen by the time he got to Abuja and he later developed severe leg pain which he has been living with for three years now.
Buba also said he has been living in poverty since Buhari became president and this had led to people mocking him.
He said:
“I feel very sad [about the Buhari regime] because some people mock me now, saying I only did that in order to be rich but I’m still poor while others enjoy insulting the President in my presence. But I’m usually helpless because I can’t really defend him.”
According to Dahiru Buba, he only received his transport fare back home after the trek and nothing more.
He said:
“I only got transport fare back home from Abuja. Although I expected much more but I was only given transportation fare, nothing more. Many well-wishers didn’t believe it when I told them that I didn’t get any money. Everyone that heard about my journey thought I returned home with huge money. But the truth is that only N10,000 was given to me.”
Dahiru Buba also begged the government to buy him a house because he has been living in someone else’s house since.
