EFCC and INEC websites back up after being hacked by Anonymous

Nigerian hacker who goes by the moniker Anonymous had on Friday revealed he attacked some websites of top Nigerian agencies including EFCC and INEC and taken them down.

Anonymous revealed this through his Twitter account @LiteMods, saying he had taken down the websites of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency – EFCC and that of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Anonymous who is often described as a “hacktivist” in the media said the attack on the websites was carried out in support of the ongoing protests against police brutality in Nigeria.

Anonymous had written on Twitter: “Nigerian government, we will not allow this corruption. We will not allow this police brutality. Your websites of @officialEFCC have been taken-down so far by my attacks and more will be next.”

Some of the websites Anonymous revealed he hacked was offline for some period of time but came back on later. As at the time of publishing this post, both EFCC and INEC websites have gone back online with their full functionality restored.
