About Bill Burr’s controversial Grammy speech

At the 2021 Grammy event which took place at Crypto.com Arena (formerly known as Staples Centre) in Los Angeles, United States, Bill Burr came under heavy social media backlash as a result of some of the jokes he made.

While presenting a series of awards at the premiere ceremony, Bill Burr joked about the preceding piano performance in a distasteful manner.

He said:

Was I the only one who wanted to kill himself during that piano solo? I bought a suit for this. I thought it was gonna be on TV. I’m such a moron, I’m losing so much money right now”.

While presenting the awards for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album and announcing the winner of the Regional Mexican Music award, Bill Burr joked that he couldn’t pronounce winner Natalia Lafourcade’s name.

He said:

I can’t say this name. Natalie what? If I butchered her name, I’m sorry. Natalie, you won.

Later on, viewers took to Twitter to criticize Bill Burr’s comments tagging them as rude, completely uncalled for, and insulting to the theme of the night. Fans of Natalia Lafourcade also criticized Bill Burr for mispronouncing the singer’s name, saying the comedian could have easily asked anyone from the show to tell him how it is pronounced.
